چکیده

This paper presents a timing study and broadband spectral analysis of the broad-line radio galaxy 4C+74.26 based on a 35 ks XMM-Newton observation. As found in previous datasets, the source exhibits no evidence for rapid variability, and its 0.2–10 keV lightcurve is well fit by a constant. An excellent fit to the pn 0.3–12 keV spectrum was found using a continuum that combines an ionized and a neutral reflector, augmented by both cold and warm absorption. There is no evidence for a soft excess. The column of cold absorption was greater than the Galactic value with an intrinsic column of∼ 1.9×10 cm. Evidence for the warm absorber was found from O VII and O VIII absorption edges with maximum optical depths of τ O VII = 0.3 and τ O VIII = 0.03, respectively. A joint pn-MOS fit increased the O VIII optical depth to τ O VIII = 0.1. A simple, one-zone warm absorber model yielded a column of ∼ 9 × 10 20 cm and an ionization parameter of ∼ 60. Partial covering models provide significantly worse fits than ones including a relativistically broadened Fe Kα line, strengthening the case for the existence of such a line. On the whole, the X-ray spectrum of 4C+74.26 exhibits many features typical of both a radio-loud quasar (excess absorption) and radio-quiet Seyfert 1 galaxies (Fe Kα emission and warm absorption). We also show that a spurious absorption line at ∼ 8 keV can be created by the subtraction of an instrumental Cu Kα emission line.

Evidence for an Untruncated Accretion Disk in the Broad-line Radio Galaxy 4c+74.26

We present evidence for a broad, ionized Fe Kα line in the XMM-Newton spectrum of the broad-line radio galaxy (BLRG) 4C+74.26. This is the first indication that the innermost regions of the accretion flow in BLRGs contain thin, radiatively efficient disks. Analysis of the 35 ks XMM-Newton observation finds a broad line with an inner radius close to the innermost stable circular orbit for a maxi...

The XMM - Newton view of the broad - line radio galaxy 3 C 120

We present the results of a 127 ks XMM-Newton observation of the broad-line radio galaxy 3C 120 performed simultaneously with RXTE. The data have yielded the highest quality 0.6– 10 keV spectrum of a radio-loud active galaxy ever produced. The time-averaged spectrum is Seyfert-like, with a reflection amplitude R ∼ 0.5, and a neutral Fe Kα line with equivalent width ∼ 53 eV. The line is slightly...

4 C + 39 . 29 – Extended emission around a powerful Type 2 quasar

We present new X-ray and optical spectroscopy of a Type 2 quasar candidate selected from a follow-up program of hard, optically-dim, serendipitous Chandra sources. The source is confirmed to be a Type 2 quasar at z = 0.536 with an intrinsic 2–10 keV luminosity L 2−10 = 5 × 10 44 h −2 0.7 erg s −1 , an absorbing column density N H = 8 × 10 23 cm −2 and a neutral Fe Kα line detected by XMM-Newton...

The XMM - Newton view of NGC 6251

We report on the nuclear X-ray properties of the radio galaxy NGC 6251 observed with XMM-Newton. NGC 6251 is a well-known radio galaxy with intermediate FRI/II radio properties. It is optically classified as a Seyfert 2 and hosts a supermassive black hole with mass ∼ 6 × 10 8 M⊙. The 0.4–10 keV EPIC pn continuum is best fitted by two thermal components (kT ∼ 0.5 and 1.4 keV, respectively), plus...

X-ray and optical study of the giant radio quasar 4C+74.26

We present the optical and X-ray study of the radioloud quasar 4C +74.26. The ASCA spectrum is rather complex with indications of a reflection component, a neutral iron line and a warm absorber. The underlying power law has a photon index of Γ = 2.03± 0.09. The soft X-ray flux in 1996 is nearly twice as high as that found in a ROSAT observation in 1993 without apparent spectral changes. The X-r...
